01 Introduction
2019 marks 50 years since humans set foot on the Moon. Our insatiable curiosity for knowledge and primordial urge to explore led to one of the greatest achievements in human history. The Apollo missions to the Moon, between 1968 and 1972, transformed our perception of the Earth revealing its beauty and fragility. It began the long-range exploration of deep space and the search for life beyond the planet.
Science Photo Library in collaboration with the astrophysicist Carlos Clarivan celebrates the first lunar landing, made by Apollo 11, in 1969. We are proud to present Carlos’ collection of highly detailed and accurate images illustrating his eBook ‘On Board Apollo Moonships’.
The author has also prepared a series of stunning new images previously unpublished and distributed exclusively through SPL.
